Twilight Struggle from GMT Games “is a two-player game simulating the forty-five year dance of intrigue, prestige, and occasional flares of warfare between the Soviet Union and the United States.”
Twilight Struggle is without a doubt my favorite 2-player game. It fully immerses you in the Cold War, pitting you against your Soviet or American opponent. This game has it all: card drafting, hand management, dice rolling, area control, the space race, and a lovely counter in the center of the board to track DEFCON. Nothing quite like the ever looming threat of global nuclear war to spice up your game night. In addition to spreading your political ideology and overseeing governmental coups, you will be reading and playing many cards, each of which highlight a famous political event that occurred during the Cold War (some good, some bad for both the Soviets and Americans). The cards are my favorite part, because you pick up on a new piece of history every time you play. Sometimes, events play out in a different order than they did in real life, which is also always fun. If you are a fan of games that immerse you in a historical period and offer teaching moments about history throughout, this game is for you.
