Reminds Me Of: Point Salad
Pacific Ocean is a light card game that I picked up through Kickstarter back in 2023. The gameplay is very simple and easy to learn, with most games wrapping up in around 10 minutes. Whether that’s a strength or a weakness will depend on what you’re looking for. Personally, I found it enjoyable, though the experience can feel a bit light compared to some other games in the same space.

The game reminds me a lot of Point Salad. Both are quick card-drafting games focused on building efficient scoring combinations, but Point Salad offers a little more depth and usually lasts slightly longer. Where Pacific Ocean really stands out is its presentation. The artwork is absolutely gorgeous, filled with colorful marine life and underwater scenes that genuinely make you feel like you’re snorkeling through a tropical reef. Every card is a pleasure to look at, and the visual theme elevates what is otherwise a very straightforward game.
I’m also a big fan of the packaging. Pacific Ocean comes in a small tin, and I’ve always loved compact travel games. It takes up almost no space on a shelf, in a backpack, or in a camping bag, making it easy to bring along wherever you go.
While it may not become the centerpiece of a game night, Pacific Ocean succeeds as a quick filler that can be played almost anywhere. It’s easy to teach, visually beautiful, and over before it has a chance to wear out its welcome. If you’re looking for a portable game for a road trip, camping weekend, or a short break between larger games, Pacific Ocean is well worth checking out.
Verdict: Pacific Ocean is a charming, compact card game that combines beautiful ocean-themed artwork with simple, accessible gameplay. It may not have the depth of some of its competitors, but its portability, relaxing theme, and quick playtime make it an excellent travel and filler game.
