Point Salad is one of those shockingly elegant card games that make you say…why didn’t I think of that. The rules are simple enough to teach in seconds, yet every turn presents an interesting decision. On your turn, you either take a scoring card that tells you how points will be awarded or draft two vegetable cards to build toward those scoring opportunities. That’s it. The entire game revolves around balancing your current vegetables with the scoring cards that best reward them.

What makes Point Salad so special is how much satisfaction it packs into such a small package. Games move incredibly quickly, especially with two players, where a full game can often be finished in under ten minutes. Despite the short playtime, every choice feels meaningful. Do you grab the scoring card that perfectly fits your strategy, or do you take the vegetables before your opponent can claim them? Those little decisions create a surprising amount of tension.

The scoring system is pure genius. There are countless ways to earn points, which means you are rarely locked into a single strategy. The best moments come when you discover multiple scoring cards that reward the same vegetables and begin stacking them together. Suddenly, every tomato or carrot you draft is worth points in several different ways. Pulling off one of these scoring chains can lead to massive point totals and is often the key to victory. If you’re new to the game, focus on finding scoring cards that overlap on the same vegetable types—you can thank me later.

Another strength is how balanced the game feels. Scores are usually very close, and I rarely finish a game feeling like the outcome was decided early. There are enough scoring opportunities available that players can pivot strategies throughout the game, keeping everyone competitive until the final tally.

For me, Point Salad is the perfect filler game. It is fast, portable, easy to teach, and consistently fun. Whether I have ten minutes before a larger game starts or just want a quick head-to-head match, it always delivers. The fact that a game this simple can remain engaging after repeated plays is a testament to just how smart the design is.

Verdict: A brilliantly designed card game that proves simple mechanics can create deep, satisfying decisions. Quick, balanced, and endlessly replayable, Point Salad deserves a place in every board gamer’s collection. If you are looking for something easy, fast, and chill, this game is for you.
